The New District Website!!

http://sjsd.schoolwires.net/domain/21

Just a Note

  • The brand new school district website will be launched later this month!  There will be lots of resources and information right at you fingertips, in an easy to navigate website.  There will also be a link to our class blog so you can continue to utilize this tool for keeping up with classroom happenings.
  • Don't forget to use the FREE resources at our class Spelling City page to work with your child on his or her spelling words.  You can always find the link on the right-hand side of the blog under "Resources", listed as Mrs. King's Spelling City page.
  • As the weather continues to cool down, please ensure that your child wears appropriate clothing for outside recess, including a warm jacket or coat.  We will go outside for recess any time the temperature is above 40 degrees and it is not snowing or raining.
  • Don't forget you are able to make comments on this blog.  Just scroll to the bottom of any post you'd like to respond to, and follow the easy steps for commenting and posting.  This blog can be a form of two-way communication!

Take a Peek At Our Week!

We have spent our first few weeks of school getting to know one another by doing lots of get to know you activities.  We have shared our “Me Bags,” made posters, and played games.  We wrote a book called, “Five Fun Things I Did This Summer” and have begun to learn and refresh our school and classroom rules and procedures!

The kids were very excited to dive into the classroom library today!  I am so happy to see that they have been reading!

I am sending home a group of addition practice sheets that you and your student may work on.  I would like them to know their facts from 0-9 fairly well so that we may begin to build up to harder concepts!

It's Field Trip Time!!

3rd Grade Field Trip!
We will be visiting the Kansas City Zoo on Thursday May 12. We will leave Lake Contrary at 9:00, so make sure your student is here and ready to go!  The bus will return around 3:00.
The cost will be $6. This covers zoo admission and the tram.
PLEASE SEND CASH ONLY

*Parents!  If you would like to attend with your child you will need to bring $6 the day of the trip.  Please plan on meeting in the 3rd grade rooms at 8:45 to go over Zoo rules and expectations.  The Zoo requires a school chaperone for each group of students, so you will not be in charge of any child but your own.  You may take only your child to explore the zoo if you wish, but will be responsible for making sure you meet back with the group at the departure time.

*Gift Shop! There are plenty of places to spend money once we get there.  If you would like to send spending money with your child make sure they have it in a plainly marked envelope with their name on it and the amount marked.
*Lunch!  We highly encourage the students to take advantage of our special fieldtrip PB&J sack lunches prepared here at school.  If your child chooses to bring a lunch from home, please make sure it is in a small disposable bag with their name clearly marked.  All contents must be disposable.  We will not have a place to keep our things after lunch.  We will have a cooler to set them in until it is time to eat.

*Please wear either a Lake Contrary shirt or a red shirt.

Please read the behavior contract below and return the permission slip and money by:Wednesday, April 27.

I understand that if my son/daughter obtains an office referral, detention, or is involved in any misconduct at school, she/he will not be allowed to attend and will be expected to attend school as a normal school day.

Look at this!

Here are just a few things to take a look at!

First, is a link to the National Shake Down Website.  Next week we will be participating in a statewide earthquake drill!  We are all familiar with "Stop-Drop-and Roll" for fire safety!  For an Earthquake all we need to remember is "Drop-Cover-Hold ON"  see for yourself at:   http://www.dropcoverholdon.org/

Next on my list is a wonderful representation of our school.  Mrs. Briedwell takes you on a 10 picture tour of our school!  Watch for our very own classroom library!

I have also had a request to link the parent portal to our blog as well!  Great idea!!  So here you go!
